Mrs. Costa's Class
Welcome to second grade!
Welcome to second grade! I hope you had an enjoyable and relaxing summer. Starting a new school year is always exciting but scary at the same time. As our summer starts winding down you may be on the lookout for back to school items.
Here are my recommendations to help your child get ready for the new school year:
- 1 ½ binder (Please note that a 1” notebook will be too small to hold their homework planner and other necessary items and a 2” binder will be too big to fit in their desk.)
- 1 small pencil/crayon box
- 3 hole punched pocket folder (for homework and mail)
These are the only important items your child will need. If you are unable to make this purchase, please let me know as soon as possible and I will see what I can do to provide these items for you.
These additional items are really optional as we have plenty available in our classroom, but your child is welcome to bring them.
4-6 pencils with erasers (no mechanical pencils, please)
glue stick (2 will be sufficient)
highlighter (1-2 is enough)
(all items, i.e. pencils, crayons, glue sticks, etc. must fit in one regular size pencil box or they will be sent home for home use)
Students will only be allowed to have one pencil box in their desk.
Students do not need notebook paper, composition books, pencil sharpeners, crayons, or markers.
August is a great time to begin reviewing first grade spelling words, basic math facts. Second graders should be able to zip their jackets, tie their own shoes, and know how to spell their first and last name, and know their address and telephone number.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone in September!
