    Reading

Reading is essential for a child’s success.  Learning to read is a sequential process; each new skill builds on the mastery of previously learned skills. Early on, for example, children learn to break down words into their most basic sounds in a process called decoding. Later, they begin to comprehend the meaning of words, sentences, and ultimately, entire passages of text.  Our reading program combines research-based practices in reading comprehension with support for fostering your child's growth as caring, collaborative, and principled people. Reading should be accessible to all children, whatever their reading levels!  In my classroom I do my best to provide an environment in which my students feel a strong sense of belonging, psychological safety, autonomy, and responsibility to themselves and to the group. Reading is an imperative part of every child's life.  I hope to inspire each child to become an avid reader and develop a life-long love of reading.
